"In peace I lie down and sleep, for you, alone O
Lord make me dwell in safety."
(Psalm 4:8)
Do you sleep in peace?
Sleeping disorder is a man-made sickness. It's the by-product of the
technological savvy self-centered modern man. The culture of self centeredness
is a culture of antithesis of humanity that should be condemned. A good
Samaritan is the anti-dote for this fast spreading peace-eating rodent of
self centeredness. Make it a point to help someone every day. Don't make
others to come to you and seek help. Instead, you look around and help the ones
in need. This will give you a lot of peace and when you are at peace with
yourself, you can be rest assured of a good night's sleep. The little acts of
kindness are the opportunities to be of service and are reminders of how good it
feels to be kind, wanted, loved, and helped. A helping ritual that you practice
regularly will soften and calm the mind and body that are over agitated
and over exercised.
It's a ritual practice of a family with two children to pick up litter from
their surrounding area. They have become so accustomed to doing this, that the
two daughters will often say to the Dad in an animated voice, "There is some
litter Dad, stop the car." And if they have the time, they will often pull over
and pick it up. It may seem strange, but they actually enjoy it. They pick up
litter from parks, sidewalks, practically anywhere and everywhere. Once Dad
even saw a complete stranger picking up litter close to where they live. He
smiled at Dad and said, "I saw you doing it, and it seemed like a good idea."
It is one of an endless supply of possible helping rituals for a good sleep and
satisfaction of accomplishment.
Holding a door open for people, visiting lonely elderly people, shoveling snow
off someone else's drive way, are some practical help you could do daily.
Jesus, let everybody get a good night's sleep. Let us help the people who are in need. We pray for those who are in the fields of selfless services. All we ask in the name of Jesus. Amen.
