How I Know God
Answers Prayer
The Personal
Testimony of One Life-Time
By ROSALIND GOFORTH, Missionary in China
These incidents of
answered prayer are not given as being more wonderful,
or more worthy of record, than multitudes the world over
could testify to; but they are written and sent out
simply and only because I had to write them or
disobey God.

"The Kingdom of God Is Within You"
by Leo Tolstoi
Christianity Not as a Mystic Religion but as a New Theory of Life
In the book Tolstoy speaks of the principle of
nonresistance when confronted by violence, as taught by Jesus. Tolstoy sought to
separate Orthodox Russian Christianity, which was merged with the state, from
what he believed was the true message of Jesus Christ, as contained in the
Gospels, specifically the Sermon on the Mount. The book is the culmination of
thirty years of Tolstoy's Christian thinking, and lays out a new organization
for society based on a literal Christian interpretation.
The Gospels in The
Second Century by W. Sanday
An Examination of The Critical Part of a Work
Entitled ‘Supernatural Religion’
The author of 'Supernatural Religion' starts from a rigid and
somewhat antiquated view of Revelation--Revelation is 'a direct
and external communication by God to man of truths undiscoverable
by human reason. The divine origin of this communication is proved
by miracles. Miracles are proved by the record of Scripture,
which, in its turn, is attested by the history of the Canon.

Concerning Christian
Liberty by Martin Luther
A Christian man is the most free lord of all, and subject to
none; a Christian man is the most dutiful servant of all, and
subject to every one.
Man is composed of a twofold nature, a spiritual and a bodily. As regards the
spiritual nature, which they name the soul, he is called the spiritual, inward,
new man; as regards the bodily nature, which they name the flesh, he is called
the fleshly, outward, old man. The Apostle speaks of this: "Though our outward
man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day" (2 Cor. iv. 16). |

English poet John Milton. The poem concerns the Christian story of the Fall of
Man: the temptation of Adam and Eve by the fallen angel Satan and their

"justify the ways of God to men" and elucidate the conflict between God's
eternal foresight and man's free will. |
Lighted to Lighten: The
Hope of India
By Alice B. Van Doren
A Study of Conditions among Women in India, 1922
To-day Lucknow, Madras, and Vellore are sending out each year their
quota of educated women, ready to find their place in the world's work.
It gives one pause, and the desire to look into the future--and dream.
Ten years hence, twenty, fifty, one hundred! What can the dreamer and
the prophet foretell? What of the gladness of America through whose hand,
outstretched to share, there has come the release of these latent powers
of India's womanhood?
The Strange
Strategy of God
My Journey
In my childhood, God the Father was for me a bearded
old man and God the son, a handsome Jesus. The Holy
Spirit was a mysterious dove sending rays of light from
its beak, in an upside down position over the Father and
the Son. They were up there in heaven, watching over me
and noting my actions in a book. Later, these pictures
have merged into darkness. I do not understand the
Theology of the Trinity, but I understand that Father,
Son and Holy Spirit are all God.

The Life and Legends of Saint Francis of Assisi
Translated from The French of
Father Candide Chalippe, O.F.M.
The Life and Legends of St. Francis of Assisi by Father Candide
Chalippe, O.F.M., need no apology. The work was first published at
Paris in 1727. It is not only well written and reliable withal, but
also instructive, elevating and inspiring. The facts and legends
mentioned are drawn from the oldest and most reliable sources. The
abundance of incidents and anecdotes not to be found elsewhere make
the volume eminently interesting, while the reflexions and applications
which the author now and then interweaves with the narrative are so
replete with practical hints on spiritual life, that they will
undoubtedly produce the best spiritual results in the reader. The style
though simple, at times graphic, is very pleasing; the narrative flows
on with equal ease and freedom. Read the full
