"Don't love cash, be satisfied with what you have. For God had said, 'I will never fail you. I will never abandon you.'" (Hebrews 13: 5)
Content with what we have. That is the key to a
happy life on this earth. We can do this by the power of God. Greed and
discontent make families and offices, and the earth at large, a hell.
Discontented minds can never be satisfied with anything in this world even the
moon. Strive to live with less. Give away out of your abundance rather than
accumulating more. Christians who become materialistic are saying by their
actions that God can't take care of them. The only antidote is to trust God to
meet all our needs. Earthly possessions, worldly desires, and money will pass
away. Paul knew how to be satisfied whether he had plenty or whether he was in
need. So learn on God's promises. Depend on Christ's power to help you be
contented with what you have. According St Augustine, God has created us for
Him, and our hearts are restless, until we find rest in Him. Till we find God,
we accumulate and accumulate and never be satisfied.
Fed up with the never ending petitions, God asked the petitioner, ask for three
requests. The man's first request, "I want my wife to die, so I can marry a
better woman." Request was granted. But by seeing her funeral, he was so sad, so
he asked the lord to bring her back. She was brought back. Then for last
petition, he consulted widely, not to make any mistakes. The consultants
advised, money, health, immortality, etc. He was in total confusion. For years,
he could not take any decision. Finally he said to the lord. "Tell me what to
ask for." The lord laughed when he saw the man's predicament. And said, "Ask to
be content no matter what you get it."
Look in to your closet, every day. Count the accumulated unwanted items. One by
one, throw them away. Let the needy pick it up and use it. Then you will be okay
- a sane person!
Jesus, thank you for your divine providence. We know now, you meet all our needs today. Let us be content with what we have. Let your spirit of contentment abide in us. Let our thirst be quenched by your spirit. We asked this in the name of Jesus.
Amen.
