You Reap What You Sow

by Rev. Fr. V.V. Paulose, Toronto, Canada

Today's Bible Verse

"Don't be deceived. God is not mocked, for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap." (Galatians 6:7)

Discussion

Does Newton's law - "To every action there is an equal reaction" apply to our moral realm?

It's natural to harvest what we sow and the same principle is true in almost every aspect of life. Every action has a reaction/result. The law of Newton's theory is that in every action, there is always an equal and opposite reaction. There is an immutable law of God in the life of human beings. If you plant the seed of pleasing God, you'll harvest joy and ever lasting life. But if you sow your own desires, then you will harvest a crop of sorrow and evil. Nobody can skip or by-pass this law of love laid by God for the smooth transition of human life to the hands of the Almighty. The more we break this law, the more a broken life we live resulting in us cursing all the elements in the world, even God, for our sorrows. This is a never ending saga.

To break this vicious cycle of wretched meaningless evil life, we should fall at the feet of the Cross and come out with a commitment of living a cleansed, sanctified and justified life. So before we think, talk, and act to do any harm to others, let us not forget that we are going to get back this, not the same amount of misery, but a thousand folds more with all the fury of darkness. This may happen now or later in our lives, or to our generations to come. It is like playing with fire and one should never play with the moral laws of God. I think our moral conscience has become eroded, hardened, mutilated, confused, tarnished, immobilized or may be even dead to see clearly the laws and love of God. So, let us be ever vigilant and change ourselves before it is too late.

We all remember the 72 hour siege of Mumbai in which 166 people were killed on 26th November – India's worst ever terrorist attack. When a reporter asked the lone terrorist caught alive, Ajmal Kasab, as to how he was feeling, he said, "Jaisa boya, waisa kata" (I have reaped what I sowed). How perfectly and fool-proof does the rule of God work?

Let us put an end to our wrong doings and start doing all the good we can, so that we are blessed to enjoy the fruits of our labor.

Prayer

Jesus, you are the God of love. We pray for those who are out of your moral realm and live in tears and sorrows. You do not like any of your creations living in distress and darkness. Let all our neighbors understand and experience your love and follow your laws. We ask this in the name of Jesus.

Amen.
