"The light shine through the darkness and the darkness can never extinguish." (John 1:5)
Can we do anything good to others?
God has given each of us a purpose in life. We should not miss any opportunity to fulfill this mission. We are living in a world of corruption and darkness. We need to correct this and bring on the goodness of light. God has gifted us with different abilities and our role is to faithfully seek ways to serve others with what Christ has given us. There is no better time than the present to use our talents to be a beacon of light to the people who need help. In trouble or calamity, persecution or hunger, destitution or danger, threats or death, St. Paul didn't deter from his mission of serving others in Christ. Actually he wrote the majority of his Epistles when he was in jail. Each moment of life is a special gift of God. So live every second fruitfully for the benefit of others.
From her hiding place, 13 year old Annie Frank had noted in her diary on Wednesday, 5th April 1944, "I finally realized that I must do my school work to keep from being ignorant, to get on in life, to become a journalist. I want to be useful or bring enjoyment to all people, even those I've never met. I want to go on living even after my death. And that's why I'm so grateful to God for having given me this gift. My sorrows disappear, my spirits are revived!" Finally on August 4th, she was arrested along with her mother and sister and brought to the concentration camp in Auschwitz by the Nazi agents. There, her gregarious and confident nature allowed her to obtain extra bread rations for them. Eventually, they all died in the camp. Later, her scribbled diary was retrieved and published in the name of "The Diary of a Young Girl." It has been translated in more than 50 languages and is one of the widely read books around the world. She didn't leave her legacy as an ode to the past, but as a beacon of hope to the future.
"A living dog is better than a dead lion." (Ecclesiastes 9:4). Let us live as human beings serving others using the talents given to us by God.
Jesus, give us the inner eye to find our talents. Let our precious life be for others in need. Let us be the healing and saving angels for those in need and let your saving hands not go unnoticed by them. We ask this in the name of Jesus.
Amen.
