"No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us." (Romans 8: 37)
Can we appreciate our adversity?
We have to face hardships in many forms: persecution, illness, imprisonment and even death. This world is destructible. That is reality. But the question is how do we face this reality? Escapism ends in calamity but victory is for the brave who overcome adversities in any insurmountable situations. Those who are in Christ are super conquerors, and His love will protect us from the defeat in all our pursuits of life. Even if thousands of calamities occur, they will not affect us. Because God, the mighty Conqueror of death and sickness is with us and we are his protected children. Birds can fly over us but we should not allow them to build nests in our heads.
"127 HURS" is a movie about Aron Ralston. The Colorado adventurer in 2003 cut his lower right arm to free himself from an entrapped boulder in Utah’s remote canyon after being in a painful and hopeless situation for 127 hours. He feels fortunate to have done what he did because it changed his life. He said, "This was the greatest thing that has happened; it changed my life; it changed my relationships with my family and friends, and has led to my marriage and a baby." He still goes on climbing and hiking adventures. He is a motivational speaker and tells people of how he didn’t lose a hand, but regained his life. It is the Can-Do-Spirit optimism of Christ, the Conqueror.
We are with the immortal spirit that can never be defeated. It has the super immune power to protect us from all adversities. Only our defective attitudes can make us feel defeated, not any outside forces.
Jesus, you are our protector. You always insulate us from all our calamities and adversities. Let those who suffer find a way to overcome their problems. Let us always see your protective shield around us. We ask this in the name of Jesus.
Amen.
