"And do everything with love." (Corinthians 16:14)
Are you bored of doing work?
All work would be boring and tiresome if we do it without love. Do everything
with love because, without love, it would seem meaningless. Our actions should
say that we really love others. It produces selfless, sacrificial giving. The
greatest act of love is giving oneself for others. How can we give up our lives?
By serving others with no thought of receiving anything in return. Sometimes, it
is easier to say we'll die for others than to truly live for them - this
involves putting others' desires first.
St. Terese of Lisieux lost her mother when she was 4 years old due to breast
cancer. She was put in a convent with bare minimum facilities. She became the
subject of gossip, and one of her superiors took a very harsh attitude to this
young "spoilt middle class" girl. However, Therese always responded to criticism
and gossip with an attitude of love, no matter what others said.
Eventually the nun who had criticized Theresa so much said, `Why do you always
smile at me? Why are you always kind, even when I treat you badly?" Terese's
philosophy was that "what was important was not doing great works, but doing
little things with the power of love."
Love never gets bored. Love is God. God is love. Stop talking about love and let
your work talk about love.
Jesus, instill the base of love in our hearts to
work for you. Bless those who do the work of love without beating their
trumpets. Let us have the inner eye to recognize true love. We ask this in the
name of Jesus.
Amen.
