"Foolish man! Tonight your life will be taken from you. So who will get those things you have prepared for yourself." (Luke 12:20)
"I must govern the clock, not be governed by it."
- Golda Meir (1898-1978), former Prime Minister of Israel
Our body is confined by time and space. There is a limit and end for it, but the
spirit is everlasting. We have to steer our life to eternity. Each moment of our
life on earth is measured and valued in the realm of eternity. Our words,
thoughts and actions should be scrutinized, reviewed, remodeled and directed in
the light of accountability to the Creator. This precious life is not to be
taken lightly. Life is meaningful, joyful, worthwhile, and beneficial to those
who live in Jesus. "Boast not thyself of tomorrow; for thou knows not what a day
may bring forth." (Proverb 27:1) "God's spirit shall not always strive with man"
(Genesis 6:3). "Now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation"
(11 Corinthians 6:2). Make use of each fraction of a second to live a meaningful
life.
Jim Moret writes, "I have decided to embrace each day as if it were my last and
focus exclusively on the positive influence and people around me. In that way, I
believe that the rest of my life will be immeasurably more rewarding, more
joyous, and more meaningful. Imagine that it took me contemplating my own death
to teach me how to truly live. Sometimes, the most obvious lessons are the most
difficult to learn. I have not yet reached my destination. I am committed to
continuing on this journey of my life. I have come to view time as my friend. I
will cherish it, guard it, use it and make the most of it. I plan to live the
rest of my life as if this were the last day of my life."
Life is not for just eating, drinking, storing, resting and enjoying, but mainly
for loving, caring, sharing, giving, nursing, and finally, handing over the
spirit to Jesus.
Jesus, God of eternity, forgive us for the time
spent on our selfish desires. Let the people be aware of the fragility of life
on earth. Let them use it for the benefit of others. Let us show the light of
eternity to those who are living in the shadow of death. All we ask in the name
of Jesus.
Amen.
