"It is finished." (John 19:30)
It’s the beginning of the guaranteed
victory. Do you think so?
It’s the word of triumph from the mouth of Jesus on the Cross by finishing the
work of salvation that he was entrusted and taken by himself to fulfill. It is
not the word of frustration, defeat, an end or succumbing to the brute force of
suicidal, foolish, political, and religious authorities but a new life.
There are times we feel and seem we are at the finishing line of our life and
that is all life to end and go into the darkness of eternity. From time
immemorial, there are people who say God is dead, the degree and intensity
varied from time to time, but the truth and faith in God ever sustains through
the people of God as long as the world exists.
"Fools say to themselves, "There is no God. Fools are evil and do terrible
things" (Psalm 14:1). Life is a never ending long journey holding the loving
hand of Jesus to eternity. This can be experienced for all those who listen to
the sound of the gentle whisper of God. When we are confused, frustrated, and
hopeless and in utter darkness, that is not the finish but the beginning of a
new life and triumph.
Mathew is handicapped by birth - his left leg is shorter than the right. All the
teasing of others, self pity and frustration during his growing years lead him
ultimately to depression. As an adult, he was very tempestuous and rebellious.
Meanwhile, he heard that a good orthopedic surgeon who had gone to Russia and
specialized in correcting disproportionate legs like his, had come to Chennai.
He was booked for the treatment. After six months of painful and mind-boggling
treatment, Mathew's problem was completely solved and his legs were now normal.
As a happy man with the feeling of a new life, he got married to a lovely
beautiful girl and have 3 angelic children, and is leading a happy, contented,
thankful, satisfied Christian life.
"I’m certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his
work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ returns" (Philippians
1:6). Winter is not the end of all seasons but is the beginning of spring. Go
on. Close the ears to all the frustrating sounds of defeated people. Connect
with people of positive energy.
Jesus, let us find a new life in you in this Holy Week. Let all those who are without any hope and future be blessed with hope and good future. May those in sickness, unemployment, family discord, financial crunch, doubt in God, above all in sins, find hope and salvation in the light of the resurrected Christ. We pray for all the medical professionals who are bestowed with the talent of treatment and healing. All we ask in the name of Jesus. Amen.
