The Road to Emmaus Now behold, two of them were traveling that same day to a village called Emmaus, which was seven miles from Jerusalem. And they talked together of all these things which had happened. So it was, while they conversed and reasoned, that Jesus Himself drew near and went with them. - Luke 24:13-15 (NKJV) Photo: The Historic Road to Hana, Maui, Hawaii. Photographed and Copyright by Capt. Dr. Jacob Madhu Mathew, MD, FS, Malankara World Contributor. The Hana Highway is a 64.4-mile long stretch of Hawaii Highway that connects Kahului with the town of Hana in east Maui. In my opinion, the Road to Hana is the most spectacular drive in Maui (one of the Hawaiian Islands). It's a curvy coastal road with views of cliffs, beaches, waterfalls, and miles and miles of rainforest. (It reminds me of the trip to Kumily from Kottayam. What the Thekkady trip lacks is the spectacular beach views Mauian coast.) It is a well paved road now, but you do need to be very careful when you drive on it because of the many sharp curves and one-lane bridges. (The one-lane bridges are maintained for historical interest, I think; but they also sport spectacular views of waterfalls. Around the time of Christ, this road was probably just like the Road from Jerusalem to Emmaus, a difficult pathway connecting small hamlets, while still allowing one to enjoy the beauty of the creation of God and rest under the shade of the majestic trees lining the road. When I think of the Road to Emmaus, the first thing that comes to my mind is the Road to Hana. Road to Emmaus is 7 miles and takes a day to walk, the road to Hane is also a one day trip by car. |
