His Holiness Abune Paulos, Patriarch of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church, Archbishop of Axum and Ichege of the See of Saint Teklehaimanot passed away on August 15 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. HH was 76 years old. The Patriarch was seriously ill and was admitted to the Dejazmach Balcha Hospital in Addis Ababa. It has been reported that the Patriarch has been undergoing a medication for a long time.
Mor Philoxinus Mattias Nayis, Patriarchal Assistant and Metropolitan of St. Aphrem Theological Seminary, Ma’arrat Saidnaya, Damascus lead the delegation of Syriac Orthodox Church for the funeral of Patriarch Abune Paulos on behalf of His Holiness the Patriarch Moran Mor Ignatius Zakka I Iwas at the funeral services.
