A Better Life

by Rev. Fr. V.V. Paulose, Toronto, Canada

Today's Bible Verse

"Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has passed away, behold, the new has come." (2 Corinthians 5:17)

Discussion

Does anything keep you from becoming a new person?

We are all on our way to either becoming the best or the worst. Some are struggling to get out from unwanted behavior inherited by different circumstances. Sometimes, we even wonder if it is possible to come out of it. The Bible speaks about a new life - that is a 90 degree turn in our life - a death of the 'bad life' and a resurrection – 'a new you'.

To choose a better life, a deliberate decision to do so and execution of the plan is important. It may take months to achieve perfection, but nevertheless, you are on the right track to becoming a 'new person'. Our present society is suffocated with corruption, murder, deceit and war. To rectify this, we badly need an overhauling, not a patch-up of the old stock. This is not easy and requires a new way of looking at people and life. Does your life reflect this new perspective? A new age and a resurrection of a new life would result in a new YOU.

Andrew, aged 15, living in Texas writes, "Soon after I dedicated my life to Christ, I grabbed a garbage bag. I combed through everything in my room, every little thing. I looked through my shelves, asking God to show me what I needed to be free from. I threw about 20 books in the bag. Then, I came to my music collection. It was hard to do that, but I threw most of it in the bag too. I grabbed my phone and deleted some numbers of people who did not share my lifestyle of following Christ. I even ripped up things that I had written and threw them away as I knew that they were not pleasing to God. In the end, I was amazed at how heavy the bag was - at how many things I had allowed to influence my life that did not lead me to Jesus. It was an awesome experience, and the relief that I had felt afterwards was something only God could provide".

Just talking about a change is not enough. We need to take initiatives, make changes and implement them in our lives, like Abraham on the way to Mount Moriah to sacrifice Isaac.

Prayer

Jesus, you are the perfect guide to show us the way to live. Let those who struggle to be good be blessed with the dawn of a new life. We pray for people to make the changes and follow thy way. Give us the courage to throw away our bad past and pursue a good future. We ask this in the name of Jesus.

Amen.
