You Cannot Hide From God

by Rev. Fr. V.V. Paulose, Toronto, Canada

Today's Bible Verse

"Nothing is hidden from God! He sees through everything, and we will have to tell him the truth.” (Hebrew 4:13)

Discussion

Happiness can’t be faked.

All masks are deceptive and hateful. Fake happiness is the shame for unhappiness. We should be what we are. Everyone is unique and should be appreciated. Painting of the face should be only for acting, not for living. When we lead a closed and double-faced life in our homes, happiness becomes a mirage. Homes should be the sweet home, the chamber of love, the nest of happiness and not an ocean of tears, land of wars, world of mutual suspicion, and hidden caves of secret and mistrust. We are afraid of shame to let the truth about us known to others. But God already knows everything about us, even the number of hairs on our heads (Mathew 10:30). We are in a world of deception by learning to hide and being dishonest about our emotions for fear of judgement and guilt. “They will act religious, but they will reject the power that could make them godly” (2 Timothy 3:5).

One day a man went to visit a doctor who was famous for his radical healing cures. “What’s your problem?” asked the doctor. “I’m completely depressed,” said the man. After a brief consultation, the doctor said, “I won’t give you tablets for your depression. The circus is in town this weekend. And I want you to go see the great clown Grimaldi.” The man bowed his head and said, “My dear doctor, I am Grimaldi.”

We’re eager to keep our appearances, put on a brave face like a mask, for, like us, society does not tolerate our real individuality well. This attitude should change. We should not be ashamed of ourselves. "They promise freedom, but they themselves are slaves of sin and corruption” (2 Peter 2;19). Try to live today without any mask and enjoy the freedom of truth.

Prayer

Jesus, let us be truthful to ourselves. Give us the guts and courage to tear all our masks we wear in our homes and in the midst of others. Cleanse our hearts and minds from all the deceptive ways of life we have been leading. Let our homes, spouses, children and spiritual leaders not have a double face. All we ask in the name of Jesus. Amen.
