Gifts from God

by Rev. Fr. V.V. Paulose, Toronto, Canada

Today's Bible Verse

"If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, now how much more shall your heavenly father give good things to them that ask him." ( Mathew 7:11)

Discussion

Do you know that God always meet your needs?

God is generous, loving and compassionate. He meets all the requests of his children. We have to receive his blessings with gratitude. In our perception and eyes, the gifts may not be up to the mark or may be contrary to our requests, but that is only the packaging, the content is always as per our requests. God knows all our needs - spiritual, mental and physical than anyone else in this world.

Parents and friends may forget your genuine requests but God would never ever do that. "Never! Can a woman forget her sucking child? Can she feel no love for the child she has borne? But even if that were possible, I would not forget you" ( Isaiah 49:15). The utmost concern of parents on this earth is their children. Even a common cold, simple fever or mere sneezing could cause great concern for the parents. But God's concern is far greater for his children who are created, saved, and sustained by his love . We can always count on God.

God wants his children with him in eternity and so, he leads them in this troubled world in his own way. "He is showing his kindness to the living and to the dead" (Ruth 2:20).

A young man is about to get his graduation. For many months, he had been longing for a sports car that he had seen in a particular dealer's show room. He told his father about it and his father could well afford it. On the graduation day, he called his son and told him how proud he was to have such a fine son and that he loved him very much. He handed his son a beautiful wrapped gift box. It was a lovely, leather bound Bible. The son got angry and said, "With all your money you give me a Bible?" and went out from the house, leaving the holy Bible.

Many years passed. The young man was very successful in business and life. He had not seen his father since his graduation and now wanted to see him. Meanwhile he got a telephone call that his father had passed away and had willed all his possessions to his son. With a sad heart he rushed to his father's home. There he saw the Bible, still new and unopened. He opened the Bible and began to turn the pages. As he turned the pages, a car key dropped from an envelope taped behind the Bible. It had a tag with the dealer's name, the same dealer who had the sports car he had desired. On the tag was the date of his graduation and the words… PAID IN FULL.

Remember that whatever gifts are in front of us are the gifts of God and His blessings. It may be bitter or sweet, but enough to meet all our needs and aspirations in this life and after. "Your fathers, if your children ask for a fish, do you give them a snake instead?" ( Luke 11:11)

Prayer

Jesus, let us understand that life itself is a blessing from You. Lord, we know that you hear our prayers and answer then. Let us have a correction time for all your missed blessings. All we ask in the name of Jesus. Amen.
