Only Through Love Can we See Resurrected Jesus

by Rev. Fr. V.V. Paulose, Toronto, Canada

Today's Bible Verse

"He’s risen from the dead!" (Mark 16:6)

Discussion

Can we recognise and experience the resurrected Jesus in this mundane life?

Christianity and Christians are fruitless and incapacitated without the life experience of the resurrected Christ. Mary Magdalene could not recognize the resurrected Christ till she heard her name "Mary" from the mouth of Christ - the word of love. Peter could not believe the good news of resurrection from the mouth of others but John could, the disciple who was loved by Jesus.

The disciples, as a group, couldn’t recognize the risen Christ with their eyes when he was on their way to Galilee with them; but the communication, the talks, the action of love of Jesus on the way, etc. convinced and pricked their conscience in the presence of Christ. The disciples could not understand Jesus even when they had all sat for of dinner with him but when he had broken the bread and given to them they could - action of love.

Nobody can recognize the risen Christ without the action of love - the only condition! The world doubts the reality of the resurrection as did the learned Pharisees, priests and scribes at the time of Jesus - a lot without any love. Anybody can see the resurrected Jesus if they look through the eyes of love. When we walk and work with love and faith, the world knows that Christ is Risen, Risen indeed!. Nothing can help to regain the lost faith but love alone.

In a cold winter, Mary, the highly placed society lady was on her way to a Mall. She had noticed a young boy without any winter boots and jacket shivering in the frigid weather. She held his hand and took him to the mall and bought a winter jacket and a pair of boots for him, and then took him to his home. The boy kneeled down in front her and asked "Are you Christ?" She told him that she was only the daughter of Jesus. That day the boy saw the resurrected Christ with his own eyes in "Mary" the loved woman.

"Put your finger here and look at my hands. Put your hand into the wound in my side," Jesus said to Thomas. Thomas exclaimed "My Lord and my God" ( John 20:27,28).

Prayer

Jesus, let us hear the soft voice of our name called by you in thy love. We pray for all those who are in the ministry of love. Let your spirit of the resurrected love always abides within us. We pray for Mary, the good soul of love. All we ask in the name of Jesus. Amen.
