"Let your good deeds shine out for all to see so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father." (Mathew 5:16).
Ready to do help...Where should I start?
'Doing good to others' is an inborn character that God has enshrined in the hearts of all human beings. Let us improve on this trait and not lose it while we are here. Lack of confidence, shyness, ignorance, discouraging attitudes and many other factors around us prevent us from doing good to others. We are actually like a city on top of a mountain. Its lights should be shown to the people who live around it. Instead, we conceal the light by -
Be a beacon of truth - don't shut your light off from the rest of the world. "A long journey starts with a single step." - So start now.
Here's what Elizabeth Raymond, aged 17, from Maine, had to say. "On a cold blizzard day, my dad and I went shopping. In the parking lot, I saw a lone elderly lady leaning on a cane, trying to scrape off ice/snow from her car. Instinctively, I ran out with my scraper to help her, and soon a few other people joined me in. This was the first time that I had strongly heard God's voice and responded to it. This incident helped me to recognize His voice at other times as well and helped me to do more good deeds for Jesus."
Are we preoccupied with our own life and dreams? Look around. There are enough opportunities for us to help others and, in turn, God will bless us for our good deeds. Remember, Time and Tide waits for no one.
Jesus, you have entrusted us with a mind to do good to others. Remove the insensitiveness in our lives and help us attend to the needs of our fellow beings. Let us be good Samaritans at all times. We ask this in the name of Jesus.
Amen.
