"There are many fine women but you are better than all of them.” (Proverbs 31:29)
My wife - My love, my joy, my angel.
A woman is praised for her good character, great wisdom, many skills, and great compassion but not for charm and beauty. Some people have the mistaken idea that the ideal woman in the Bible is docile and entirely domesticated. Not so! Here the woman is an excellent wife and mother. She is also a manufacturer, importer, manager, realtor, farmer and merchant. Her strength and dignity comes from the result of her reverence for God and not from her achievements. In our society, where physical appearance counts for so much, it may surprise us to realize that her appearance is never mentioned. Her attractiveness comes from her character. “For every success in life, there is a woman behind it” is very true in family life.
Proverbs 18:22 - “He who finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains favours from the Lord.”
A good wife is a gift from above.
Proverbs 19 :14 - “Houses and wealth are inherited from parents, but a prudent wife is from the Lord."
Sara Walker stood in her great mother’s wedding dress, watching her mother fit the new sleeves into place.
"I’m scared,” she said.
"Of what, Sara?”
“Marriage,” Sara stared into the mirror, ‘I’m scared of being an adult, of being responsible for building a new life with Ben.”
“I know.” Her mother pushed back her hair. “But follow your great-grand mother’s example; she built a wonderful life for herself and her husband. She helped keep the house, bore children, worked in the wool mill, set broken bones, canned and pickled hundreds of jars of food each year, sewed clothes and prayed beside her children’s beds each night. And through it all, she was a loving lady. She and grandpa really loved each other and they made a great team. As grandpa lay dying after 66 years of marriage, he said she was still his angel.”
“Funny, she seems more like a modern, working woman. Besides being a wife and mother,” Sara said.
Proverbs 31:10 - “A truly good wife is the most precious treasure man can find.”
Jesus, let us be the ideal wives for our husbands as you have intended. We pray for all the housewives who are struggling to keep their homes as sweet homes with heavenly joy, love and peace. We pray for the women who are breadwinners of the family and who keep the dignity of their husbands. Let their tears and fears be wiped out. All we ask in the name of Jesus. Amen.
