"We are Christ’s representatives. God uses us to
persuade men and women to drop their differences and enter into God’s work of
making things right between them."
(2 Corinthians 5:20)
Is the institution of marriage cracking down?
Yes, the marriage between woman and man and that too in the Temple of God, is
becoming antique. A 7 year old child is telling her mom and dad, "You know there
are boys and girls who don't get married. But they live together as mom and dad
till their death." Today, people are living their lives the way they want to.
Even those in wedlock are just waiting in the wings to fly off after breaking
the cage of marriage instead of understanding and making the marriage work.
Marriage is sacred and it is the responsibility of the man and woman to keep the
family together. Procreation is the gift and reward of God to human beings
within a marriage, and of course happiness is embedded in it. We are answerable
and accountable to the Lord for all our deeds in a married life. If there is a
will, there is way to make the marriage happy and workable. Simply try to
understand your spouse and communicate with love and patience.
10 years of marriage had made the couple frustrated and they were always arguing
about their finances. He couldn’t understand why she wanted to save every penny
they earned, and she couldn’t understand why he was a spendthrift. Any rationale
on either side had been lost in their joint frustration. The solution was simple
– understanding and listening to each other. He learned that she was saving to
avoid her parents’ financial disasters and she was frightened of being broke.
She learned that he felt embarrassed that he was not able to “take care of her”
they way his father took care of his mother. He wanted her to be proud of him.
As each learned to understand the other, the frustration with each other was
replaced by compassion. Today, they have a nice balance between spending and
saving.
It's not too late - Marriage is still workable, happy and self-satisfying. Don’t
allow any intruders to destroy the beauty, love, joy and peace of a sacred
married life. Be vigilant!
Jesus, keep your sacred institution of marriage intact. Give your peace and guidance to those who are struggling in their married life. Let children bring happiness to the family. Let each and every couple understand and listen to each other and iron out all their differences. All we ask in the name of Jesus.
Amen.
