"When they call on me, I will answer; I will be with them in trouble." (Psalm 91:15)
Do you see the presence of God in the midst of your troubles?
Christ is in the midst of all of our troubles. He says, "I am with you always, even to the end of the age" (Mathew 28:20). "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever" (Hebrew 13:8). God is ready to answer our prayers, but first, we must ask for his assistance. God can surely take care of our needs without our asking. But when we ask, we are acknowledging that He alone is God and that we cannot accomplish on our own strength alone. When we ask, we must humble ourselves, lay aside our willingness and worry, and be determined to obey Him.
We are in an uncertain world. We do not know what is waiting ahead of us. Within seconds, all our dreams, planning, and calculations may come crashing down, but our trust and faith in God will see us through our worst of times. As we know from the Bible, there may be Red Seas, Lion's Dens, Furnaces, jail cells, Judean wildernesses, weddings, funerals, and Galilean tempests. Look and you will find what everyone from Moses to Martha discovered. God is in the middle of our storms.
A young woman missed her station on the subway. By the time she realized her mistake, she didn't know what to do. She prayed for her safety and a solution. This was no hour or place for a young, attractive woman to be passing alone through a rough neighborhood. At that moment, the doors opened, and a homeless, disheveled man came on board and plopped down next to her. God? Are you near? she prayed. The answer came in a song. The man pulled out a harmonica and played, “Be thou My vision”- her mother's favorite hymn. The song was enough to convince her. Christ was there, in the midst of it all.
Look close. He's there. Right in the middle of it all. Always keep the antenna of our faith up. Through that, Christ will descend to you when you are in danger. He is the God who filled all the heavens and earth.
Jesus, we pray for those who are living in the midst of storms in their lives - sickness, fear, financial catastrophe, death, stress, and tensions of life. Let them feel your presence in their troubles. Answer them when they call you. We ask this in the name of Jesus.
Amen.
