Miracles

by Rev. Fr. V.V. Paulose, Toronto, Canada

Today's Bible Verse

"I was blind, but now I see." (John 9:25)

Discussion

"In order to be a realist you must believe in miracles." - Henry Christopher Bailey (1878-1961)

What does make it a miracle after all?. It's the belief that they can happen. We are living in a very pessimistic society. By the multiplicity of immorality it is very hard to believe that miracles do really take place. The people are confused and their confusion become confounded by the so called performers of miracles and their claim - most often it ends up as a hoax. So the ordinary flocks are in a cross road about the genuineness and reliability of signs and wonders.

The reality is that miracles always take place. God still works. He is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow." Listen! The Lord's arm is not too weak to save you, nor are his ears too deaf to hear your call ( Isaiah 59:1). Believe in Jesus and His power to do miracles. He told to Martha, "If you believe, you will see the glory of God." (John 11:40). By seeing the unbelief of people "Jesus was not able to perform any miracles." (Mark: 6:5)

What do you say to an eleven year old boy who holds out his hand and plead with you to take the pain away, while you feel helpless, trying in vain to comfort him? This thanksgiving day, Jim heard one of the worst sentence in the English language from the lips of his beloved son, "It hurts so much daddy." Mathew was diagnosed with a rare sickness: RSD- Reflexive Sympathetic Dystrophy- a condition that is often accompanied by extreme nerve pain, trauma and injury. He was in bed, crying and screaming with pain. Methadone didn't work against the burning, crushing pain. MRI tests and other tests took a toll in the family, spiritually, mentally, and physically. Parents could do little except to submit him at the feet of God with prayer for healing. Within two days, Mathew turned to his father and said, quiet calmly, " I think the bottom of my foot doesn't hurt any more. I think it is fine. No pain at all." That Christmas he could walk wearing the new pair of tennis shoes his sister had given him. He told his parents that his pain was gone completely. If the parents ever had a reason not to believe in miracles, those doubts were erased right then and there.

The amazing thing about miracles is that they can occur at any time. When you least expect them.

Prayer

Jesus, we pray for the children who are sick and in pain. Stretch your invincible hand and heal them. Let the tears and pains of the parents be wiped out. We ask this in the name of Jesus.

Amen
