Thought for the Day

O LORD, Correct Me

by Shibu Podiyan, Washington D.C

"O LORD, I know the way of man is not in himself; It is not in man who walks to direct his own steps. O LORD, correct me, but with justice; Not in Your anger, lest You bring me to nothing." - Jer. 10:23-24

Desire for correction from the Father confirms in our hearts the witness that we are His sons, Heb. 12:5-8. It keeps us from sin. Let us pray as Jeremiah prayed: O LORD, correct me.

The Lord's correction involves suffering: the denial of our own will; this indeed is the way of learning obedience that keeps us from sin, Heb. 5:8: though He was a Son, yet He learned obedience by the things which He suffered. And having been perfected, He became the author of eternal salvation to all who obey Him. The Son of God as the Son of Man had to learn obedience through suffering. This is what perfected Him as a man to be offered on the cross. Let us learn obedience, Lord, as you did, when we suffer (when we have to deny ourselves, lay down our own will).

A car being driven at a high speed could go off the road if small slips are not corrected constantly at the steering. In like manner, the Spirit-led, Spirit-driven believer needs constant corrections as he walks with God.

Lord, correct our thoughts and inclinations that distract us from the spirit of prayer. Let us desire your correction, Lord, as much as we desire your consolations - your consolations are assured for us. - 2 Cor. 1:3-5.
