Devotional Thoughts for Palm Sunday

by HG Zachariah Mar Theophilose

PALM SUNDAY.

Palm Sunday is known as the inaugural of Sundays. God started his creation on Sunday. The week from the Monday after Samiyo Sunday from Palm Sunday is known as a Hosanna week. The week ends with Palm Sunday. The main ceremony in the liturgy is the procession with coconut leaves and the blessings of the leaves. In some churches the procession is before the H. Qurbana and the blessing after the Kukilion. In this ceremony we are remembering three fold blessing.

1 Blessing to the vegetarian world.

2.Blessing to the Animal World and

3.The blessing to the human beings.

Vegetarian world.

In the liturgy we are using both flowers and leaves form the trees. At the time of the triumphal entry the disciples used their garments both the top of the colt and also in the roads. Some put branches of trees to receive Him. In the liturgy we r using flowers at the procession and at the time of the reading of Gospel and Sedra when the name of Hosanna is pronounced. In the liturgy there r special prayer for the leaves and the branches and the trees. Palm Sunday services are a time to bless the vegetarian world. All the creation is glorifying God including trees. This is a special occasion for them. On behalf of Hosanna if we plant a tree is the best way to bless both the world and vegetarian world. Let us join with the trees and flowers and branches and the leaves and proclaim the glory of God.

Animal World.

The least among the animal is colt or ass or donkey. It got the privilege to become vehicle of Our Lord from Bethpage to Jerusalem. It is the least among the animals. It is the symbol of peace and humility. Riding on h horse is the symbol of victory. Jesus disciples prepared a donkey for their Master. Through the selection the animal world also blessed. This donkey is not an ordinary one. The specialties are the following.

1. A virgin one. Like a virgin mother, virgin tomb the animal also a virgin.

2. A tied one. Not like a wandering one

3. with its mother.

4 From the village not from the town

5. with a Master.

6. A trained one.

7. Willingness to obey its master and leave to other place.

These are the specialties of the donkey .How many of the characters are fit for us for our Lord. The password to get it is the master needs it. The Master needs you. R we ready to follow our master by His request. The owner's willingness to give the donkey is remarkable we ready to give our possession to Jesus on His Triumphal entry to Jerusalem. The Master needs us also. The Palm Sunday the Animal world is also blessed.

Human beings.

The least among the human beings is children. Palm Sunday is their Sunday. The happiest in that day is children. They r shouting Hosanna and throwing flowers .Their prayer is the shortest prayer in Christian liturgy. Their prayer is Hosanna. Means Lord save us now. One of the meanings is Lord save us now. It is the smallest prayer and at any time we can say this prayer hosanna. Children are the representatives of human beings and through them we are blessed. Let us join with the children and pray Hosanna. Try to make this Palm Sunday a blessing to the whole creation, vegetarian world, animal world and the crown of creation.
