O where is now that glowing love
So strange did love like His appear,
Where are the happy seasons spent
Behold, again we turn to Thee;
That marked our union with the Lord?
Our hearts were fixed on tings above,
Nor could the world one joy afford.
That love that made Him bear the cross,
No other subject pleased our ear;
The world for this appeared but loss.
In fellowship with Him we loved?
The sacred joy, the sweet content,
The blessedness that then we proved?
O cast us not away, though vile!
No peace we have, no joy we see,
O Lord our God, but in Thy smile.
