by Dr. George Jacob
This curse came by disobedience, and everyone who does not fulfill the demands of the law are under this curse. In Galatians 3:10 we read: "For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them."
This includes everyone. That curse has come upon all flesh because we have all sinned and come short of the glory of God. This curse, these thorns, keep growing up in the gardens of our hearts because we are under the curse of the broken law. We will never be free of this as long as we remain in this life. We cannot deliver ourselves from the curse of the law. We cannot of our own strength deliver ourselves from those thorns and thistles that grow up in our hearts
Outside of our Saviour becoming our substitute, we are of all men most miserable, but see what we read in Galatians 3:13: Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree.
This curse of the broken law was removed by our Savior's condescension in taking that curse. I want to show you where that happened. We see it in Matthew 27:29: And when they had platted a crown of thorns, they put it upon his head, and a reed in his right hand: and they bowed the knee before him, and mocked him, saying, Hail, King of the Jews!
Those thorns that you and I deserve were placed on His head. The curse that you and I deserve was placed on His head. He became a curse for us. Now we see Him in the Garden of Gethsemane, sweating blood, under the wrath of the Father, in our place. He came before Pontius Pilate and was condemned to die unjustly. In Him was no sin. They took the curse that you and I deserve, that crown of thorns, and set it upon His head.
See the beauty of the Lily among the thorns. He was lily white, without sin. He was acquitted before the bar of Pilates justice and suffered wrongly because our curse was set on His head. That is how He took the curse of the broken law. We see our blessed King, lily white, only He was no longer lily white. He was made to be sin for us.
Have we ever seen how Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law? Have we ever seen the King in His beauty through a faiths view of our Saviour allowing our curse of the broken law to be placed upon His head? Have you ever seen the King in His beauty by a faiths view of that blessed lily white Saviour among those thorns that you placed upon His head?
He was the lily of the valley. It was in that valley of humiliation that He was brought into death, that He was condemned to die unjustly. That curse of the broken law for His people was placed on His head.
Thine eyes shall see the king in his beauty: they shall behold the land that is very far off (Isaiah 33:17). Do we now understand a little bit about that? Do we understand a little of the beauty there was when that blessed Lily was among those thorns? Does this not give you a glimpse of the King in His beauty to see our Saviour as a Lily among the thorns?
We read in Matthew 27:30: And they spit upon him, and took the reed, and smote him on the head. Can we picture our blessed lily white Saviour face covered with bloody sweat, crowned with our curse of the broken law? The blood ran down His face. Our sinless, lily white Saviour had never committed one transgression.
This curse came by disobedience, and everyone who does not fulfill the demands of the law are under this curse. In Galatians 3:10 we read: For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them.
This includes everyone. That curse has come upon all flesh because we have all sinned and come short of the glory of God. We cannot of our own strength deliver ourselves from those thorns and thistles that grow up in our hearts.
